2016 kora őszén a hollandiai székhelyű Obras Alapítvány artist in residence programjában vettem részt, melyet Portugáliában, Évoramonte vára mellett, egy tipikus alentejo-i tájon létrehozott alkotótelepen szerveztek. A tábor a tájjal teljes szimbiózisban épült fel egy hajdani gazdaság lepusztult épületeinek komfortos és funkcionális – apartmanok és műtermek – kialakításával.
Az enyhén dombos, szikár és száraz táj jellegzetes fája a paratölgy, mely évszázadokon át biztosította a helyiek megélhetését a bortermelés és a juhtartás mellett. A térség másik fontos bevételi forrása a kiváló minőségű márvány, mely többnyire fehér és tört rózsaszín árnyalatban bányászható. Ez a nemesen fehér kőzet mint építőanyag jellegzetes, napfényben szinte vakító fényhatásokat-fényreflexeket szór a környékbeli városok utcáira és épületeire.
A város zajától tökéletesen elszigetelt alkotótelep táji motívumkészlete szám szerint csekély, ám évszázadok, évezredek időtlenségét hordozza a magányosan álló paratölgyek árnyékában békésen legelésző juhok és lovak, valamint a magányosan elszórt, fehérre meszelt házak látványában. Programomban a lokális motívumok és anyagok képalkotó alkalmazását tűztem ki célul és valósítottam meg az évoramontei tartózkodásom során.

Artist in Residence program in Portugal
In the early spring of 2016 I took part in the OBRAS Artist in Residence program. OBRAS is an organization registered in Holland and hosts artists in both the Netherlands and in Portugal. I stayed at the site in Portugal, which is situated close to Evoramonte, within a typical and remote alentejo landscape. This location features a number of studios and apartments that were renovated from the ruins of an ancient farm.
The emblematic tree of this rough and dry land is the cork oak. This has long been a source of income for those who live here. There are also many vineyards and grazing sheep. Marble is the other major resource, which is of a particular excellent quality and can mined in a white and pale rose colour. This fine white coloured rock is the material that the buildings of surrounding towns are mostly composed of, and the streets are brilliantly illuminated with reflected light.
The collection of buildings that make up OBRAS are completely isolated from the noises of the town. The theme of the landscape is minimal with an ancient timelessness. A view could include the sheep and horses grazing in the shade of a lonely oak tree, or perhaps the solitude of a white plastered house. In my projects I had the intention to use local materials and themes and realize this during my stay in Evoramonte.
