A kutatások a Karon tanszéki keretekben történnek. A diszciplináris kutatások mellett a Kar a tájépítészeti témakörbe tartozó alkalmazott kutatásokat folytat. A Karon folyamatosan végzünk tananyagokat és a módszertant fejlesztő kutatásokat.

A kutatási témák az objektumokhoz kapcsolódó történeti műalkotási kutatásoktól a nagyléptékű tájökológiai, tájalakulás-történeti kutatásokig a teljes tájépítészeti szakterületet felölelik.  A Kar által gondozott szakterületek egy része jellemzően nem kutatás-igényes, hanem alkotás-centrikus. A kari oktatók, tudományos munkatársak tájépítészeti tervező tevékenysége a képzés fejlesztése szempontjából legalább olyan fontosságú, mint a klasszikus diszciplináris kutatások.  A tájépítész- és a településmérnök képzés elképzelhetetlen az oktatók hazai és nemzetközi tervezői gyakorlata nélkül.
